I personally love to write and recently the idea of undertaking the writing of a book has been on my mind. This idea is in the early stages and I am not sure what I would end up writing it about but I feel compelled to get more out there about soccer in this country. I am sick of going to Chapters and only finding a couple of books about the sport and most of them being bio's about Fernando Torres or other things that don't interest me. Other then "We Call it Soccer" by Jerrard Peters which is a great book and worth picking up to share with any friends you might have who are just getting in to the game. I would like to think, or rather dream, that I could one day author a second book by a Canadian author worthy of being in the soccer section at a store like Chapters.
The basic idea is to try and tell the story of supporting soccer in a country that is not a soccer hot bed. To do this I am going to have to try and get a lot of good people on board since I can not do it alone. I can only offer my own perspective as a third generation canadian who has no reason not to support Canada and its teams. But I am starting to come into contact with people who share the same passion, many on a much deeper level, and these people really interest and excite me. I want to learn and tell the stories of people who have recently come to the country and chosen to support Canada. I want to talk to people who have been supporting the national team long enough to have seen Canada play in the world cup. And I want to talk to people who like me are just starting to give Canada a chance as well as some people who despite loving their country remain supporters of other nations teams.
Like I said if this book is going to work I am going to need to find a lot of great people who are willing to take part. I would write up large portions of the book about the history of the game in the country but it would also contain a lot of interviews with the aforementioned people that I hope to track down. To do this I need to get in touch with anyone who would be interested in helping out and at some point we are going to need to raise some funds to try and make this happen.
